WHY DO I HELP YOU WIN?

LIVE YOUR PEAK

Not to feed ego. Not for a trophy.

Winning is how a team discovers what it’s capable of.
It’s how you experience your own passion at full intensity.
It’s how we elevate design quality.

From serving a few clients to enriching public life.

I don’t just help you win a pitch.

I help you build a team that wins the right way,

with clarity, alignment, and the courage to

create something that matters.

That’s My Philosophy.

That’s My “WHY.”

David's
PROFESSIONAL BIO

David helps leaders win. Not just the pitch, but the clarity, the alignment, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing what you're capable of.

For over three decades, he worked at the highest levels of design, rising from practitioner to global partner at one of the world's leading firms. He created spaces for billion-dollar developments. He worked with the most talented people in the industry.

And he kept seeing the same thing: brilliant people, working against each other. Not because they didn't care, but because they couldn't see what was really in the way.

That insight changed him.

He left his corporate role and spent the next decade learning a new language: the language of human systems. Today, he is an ICF-certified coach (PCC), a trained counsellor, and a certified LMI Leadership Coach. He is the author of The Five Lessons Missing in Chinese Design (Tsinghua University Press)  - a book that teaches not design skills, but the design mindset required to turn creativity into commercial results.

But David doesn't just help you see. He helps you act. He helps you win.

He believes that a peak experience  - a real win, earned with clarity and alignment - doesn't just change your results. It changes you. You see yourself differently. You feel differently. You become more patient, calmer, and more sure of what you're capable of.

That's why his work is built on a simple insight: 80% of success comes not from strategy, but from human factors - alignment, trust, clarity, and the ability to see what's hidden. He is an expert in that decisive 20%.

As a Result Coach, David helps founders, CEOs, and leadership teams do one thing: win the right way. Not through shortcuts. Through sharper questions, better alignment, and a replicable process that turns a single win into a lasting capability.

His clients call him The Ferryman: the one who helps them cross from confusion to clarity, from stuck to moving, from surviving to leading, and into a peak experience that changes who they become.

David'S LIFE BIO

You can call me David or Ferryman.

I have spent my life learning one thing:
True resilience is not about avoiding storms. It is about learning to navigate them with clarity.

I've faced business crashes, broken contracts, personal loss. I didn't just survive. I deconstructed each one. I learned to find leverage in failure and turn fear into fuel.

Now I help leaders do the same, but I don't just help you survive. I help you win.

And in that winning, you meet a version of yourself you haven't seen: more patient, more calm, more sure.

Two shifts changed me:

  1. Psychology – In college, counselling didn't just heal me. It unlocked my creativity. Scholarships, awards, a career I never dreamed of followed.

  2. Coaching – It helped me conquer a lifelong fear on the tennis court. That peak experience didn't just change my game. It changed how I see myself, how I feel under pressure, and how calm I can be.

That's not theory. It's the bedrock of my work.

What I see?

Working with billionaires and design elites, I've learned one thing: everyone craves a thinking partner who is real, not reverent. Someone who asks the hard questions and tells the hard truths.

As an introvert, I don't perform. I observe. I listen. I perceive what's unspoken.

For over twenty years, I've guided others as The Ferryman - helping you cross from friction to clarity, from stuck to moving.

And when you win - really win - you don't just get a result. You get a peak experience. And a peak experience changes you.

My journey began with one question:

How do we turn the friction of collaboration

into the flow of co-creation?

For years, I worked at the highest levels of design,

creating visions for billion-dollar developments.

I saw the best talent, the boldest ideas, the clearest strategies.

Yet again and again, something derailed them.

Not a lack of skill. Not a shortage of resources.
An invisible force. The friction of misalignment. Unclear mandates.

Broken communication. Brilliant people, working against each other without even knowing it.

That insight changed everything.
I shifted from designing physical spaces to architecting systems for human collaboration.

But alignment alone is not enough.
Alignment must lead to action. Action must lead to winning.

And winning - real winning, earned with clarity - must lead to something deeper -

a peak experience that changes how you see yourself,

how you feel, and how calm you can be.

I am not a traditional coach. I am your Result Coach.
I help you ALIGN. I help you WIN.

And in winning, I help you become a different version of yourself.

FERRYMAN & COS (飞吻)

The Story Behind FERRYMAN

In 1999, the design firm I was with was failing. My team and I flew to Harbin to chase one last project.

We didn’t get it. The firm closed. But stepping off the plane that night, the sky was bursting with stars - so bright it made me forget, for a moment, what we had lost.

That was when I understood: the light along the journey matters more than the destination.

Later, in addition to being a designer, I also became a professional counsellor. I realised my work was that of a ferryman - guiding clients, teams, and everyone in between across the chaos, toward the other shore.

In 2018, during an international Pecha Kucha event. My speech topic was “Design Ferryman.” When I left the design world in 2022, I brought the name with me into coaching. The title stayed. So did the calling.

Today, I am an ICF-certified coach (PCC) and an LMI-certified leadership coach. I’ve brought together 33 years of design experience, 27 years of psychological training, and all that I’ve learned as a coach - into the name “FERRYMAN.”

As for the Chinese name, “Fei Wen” (fēi wěn), it sounds like Ferryman. It’s also the FERRYMAN’s farewell kiss: a gentle blessing after crossing.

“The rest of the journey is yours. I was here to see you across.”

My logo is two mountains reflected in water. It’s not the shore you’re heading to. It’s the crossing itself. The scenery along the way - that’s what I want to help you see.

The FERRYMAN Legacy System
13 Forerunners

FERRYMAN

Architecting a Legacy of Value

The 13 Forerunners:

Building a Legacy of Clarity

For 33 years, my greatest inspiration has not been the projects I built - but the human systems behind them. Across cultures and industries, I discovered a universal truth: untapped potential is the world's most abundant resource.

My mission is to build systems that unlock it.

I call this Human Architecture - designing the conditions where individuals and teams can realize their most ambitious dreams. Not through command. Through clarity. Not through control. Through alignment.

This is why I launched the 13-Forerunners Initiative.

What It Is

This is not a mentorship program. It is a strategic ecosystem for legacy-building.

Over the upcoming years, I will transfer the complete architecture of my work to 7 individuals. Not just methods or tools - but the way of seeing: diagnosing hidden friction, aligning people around purpose, helping leaders see what they cannot see alone.

By the time I am 70, this system will no longer be mine. It will be a scalable resource for anyone who needs clarity, carried forward by a new generation, not as a copy of me, but as their own expression of the same deep work.

A Wider Legacy

Alongside this, we are building a coalition of pro-bono forerunners. Our goal is not abstract: we are prototyping a new model for value-driven community development in China. Proof that clarity can be built not just in boardrooms, but in communities.

Who Joins This Ecosystem?

We apply the 80/20 Principle to selection:

  • 80%: Position & Readiness
Are you at a strategic inflection point? Ready to embrace a new way of seeing? This is not for small improvements. It is for those ready to evolve.

  • 20%: Passion & Drive
The fuel. The willingness to face blind spots, sit with discomfort, and translate insight into action. The commitment to eat fear for breakfast and keep going.

Why This Matters

I have spent decades helping leaders see what they cannot see alone. Now I want to help a new generation do the same.

Not to build my name.
But to build a world where clarity is not rare, it is the foundation of how we work, how we lead, and how we live.

My Permanent Exhibition & Charity Coaching

This is not an exhibition of "works."
It is a life experiment about what remains unchanged.

At the center stands a red chair.
It offers no answers. It asks only one question:

When everything changes, what do you hold onto?
