Revised it 5 times, but the client was still not satisfied. I asked one question, and he finally realized where he went wrong.

A designer told me, “For the same project, I revised the design 5 times, but the client was still unhappy. I felt like I was about to be replaced.”
During our one-hour conversation, one sentence became the turning point.
I asked him, “What makes the client value this project so much?”
He replied: “He didn’t say.”
I asked: “Then did you ask him?”
He fell silent.
He admitted that after trying every possible approach and feeling exhausted, he began using questions to gently guide the client in revealing their true needs. It turned out that what the client really wanted wasn’t just something that “looked better” — they wanted the designer to express a core corporate belief, something they had never invested in before.
Once he understood this, the next revision was approved in one go.
He said: “It turns out I wasn’t losing at design - I was losing because I didn’t ask.”
If you’re also caught in similar confusion and fear of being replaced, feel free to reach out. Let’s find the root of the problem together. Your time and energy deserve to be spent on high-return goals.
