He studied meditation, read over a dozen books, but his clients still didn’t understand him.

He is a design studio owner with over 20 years of experience. His skills are solid and he has a strong portfolio.
“Coach David,” he said, “I want clients to clearly see who I am and truly understand my design.”
He read books, practiced meditation, and worked on self-awareness. But the results were minimal, and he became even more anxious.
After talking for half an hour, I roughly understood the issue.
“I seem to see an image,” I said. “You walk into a clothing store, pick out an outfit, put it on, and then ask others: ‘Does this suit me?’”
He leaned forward, speaking quickly: “Then how do I know if it suits me or not?”
I didn’t reply. There was a minute of silence. He grew impatient.
“I feel like your tone and manner… are threatening me,” I said. “Right now, what are you thinking?”
He denied it. He immediately started explaining and spoke nonstop for five or six minutes.
“So what exactly should I do?”
I remained silent again. Another minute passed.
“The version of you from the last five minutes,” I said, “is that the version you want your clients to see?”
He froze. Then he lowered his head.
“…No.”
There was no methodology or answer in that first conversation.
Over the next three months, he stopped asking “what should I do.” Instead, he began reflecting: What does the real me look like in the eyes of my clients?
Not something learned from books - but something that grows from within.
His relationships with clients changed. So did his business.
