The Secretary General came in full of doubt. Twenty mins later, we ended the conversation.

A friend introduced us, saying he was confused and wanted to talk. As soon as he sat down, he wore a smile that made me uneasy - his mouth was smiling, but his eyes were empty.
“Coach David, first tell me, what does our industry need to do to improve?” After a pause, he added, “But I need to see if you can impress me first.”
“Coaching isn’t about answering questions,” I said. “I don’t give advice, and I’m not here to impress anyone. Are you sure you want to continue?”
He paused for a moment, then smiled again.
He started talking - about how many industry big shots he knew, how impressive they were, what cars they drove, which restaurants they owned, and how they had treated him to meals… For nearly fifteen minutes, everything was about “other people.” He didn’t mention a single thing about himself.
“You’ve talked so much about other people,” I said. “What about you? What is your ‘thing’?”
For the first time, his smile disappeared. He paused again, then said vaguely, “You… first tell me your reasoning, then I’ll tell you.”
I closed my notebook.
“No need. Let’s stop here for today.”
If you’ve been waiting a long time in the mode of “waiting for others to prove themselves first,” DM me the word “Unlock”. Let’s connect and find the root of the problem together. Your time and energy deserve to be spent on high-return goals.
