A developer who delayed payment for half a year. I asked one question, and he paid within a week.

Many years ago, I was still a designer.
A developer I had worked with for years finished a project, but the design fee remained unpaid for six months.
During a tea gathering, I asked him openly:
“In your industry, delaying design fees is quite common. What impact does this have on your company?”
He replied:
“The economy is tough, and there are many designers. Money has to go to more important places first. What we’re looking for are partners who can share both the good times and the hard times.”
I said:
“Do you know that good design firms will put you on their blacklist? The ones who stay and keep serving you gradually become second- or third-rate. Delaying a hundred thousand for half a year only gets you partners who can no longer revise well or improve.”
He was stunned.
I continued:
“Have you calculated how much the delays from endless revisions are costing you?”
He went back and changed his payment strategy - priority payment for design partners who truly understand them and can grow together. For the others… we’ll see.
One week later, our outstanding fee was paid in full.
If you’re also stuck in the cycle of “delaying payments” and “can’t find good designers,” feel free to reach out. Let’s find the root of the problem together. Your time and energy deserve to be spent on high-return goals.
